Jack,

That’s a really interesting article, tackling a word that really doesn’t mean what it used to, SEO.
Intuitive design, quality of your content, load speed of your website, these are important factor that will contribute to how well your advisor website performs, grabs attention, retain visitors and ranks in the search engines.

Based on my experience, most 'SEO consultant’ are crooks, looking to make quick bucks on uneducated advisors. You are much better how learning what the basic SEO mechanics are (website like SEOMoz or HubSpot are a great place to start) before engaging SEO or web marketing firms.

If you decide to hire the services of an SEO agency, here are a few tips that will help you sort the good from the bad apples. [note: all the items below are indicators of a really bad SEO agency/consultant]

-They make promises & guarantee 1st page results
-They pitch linking schemes (placing links on hundreds of pages nowhere near relevant to your business)
-They want to list your site in directories (which are most likely link building farms with no real SEO juice to pass onto your site)
